Boeing 727 Crashes Shortly After Takeoff From Tehran

At approximately 7:12 local time, an Ukranian Boeing 727 airliner crashed in Iran after taking off from Tehran. All 176 passengers died in the crash. The casualties were made up of 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians, 11 Ukranians, 10 Swedes, 4 from Afghanistan, 3 Germans, and 3 Britons.

There was no official word on the cause of the crash at time of publication. Reports suggest that the plane achieved an altitude of 8000 feet before losing contact with ground. Iranian media blames engine failure, but Ukraine's embassy first published and then retracted a statement saying the same. There is also an unverified video that purports to show the plane falling from the sky while engulfed in fire.

This post will be updated as the story progresses
